Progress...

          Today my group and I were really trying to contemplate what we have to do next. We came up with our consensus on what we want to get across to the class and we generally brainstormed how we want to do it. The general idea that we are going to give an overview of what we are going to be talking about, then, we want to split the class up into 5 groups and we will each explain a continent and its significant events. Then, we will come together, reflect on what the class saw, do another activity and then conclude with our reasoning. I feel that what my group wants to do is going to be very broken, and that it wont all connect to our main point. Maybe i am just a pessimist, but right now i feel we need a stronger plan of attack, and a more creative way to present.

          I think I know what I am going to do tonight.

SAR 10

On the last reflection for this class I said that my group and I were working as a collective and I did feel that way at first but for the last two weeks t has come to my attention that my group and I are a little broken apart. I feel that as a group, we could be doing better when it comes to collaborating because I think that we started to get into our subgroups that we forgot to come together as a teem and talk to each other. Right now the biggest goal that we have is to sit down and get ourselves organized so that the next mini project that we do won’t creep up on us.

I think that the biggest assets that my group has are the creative ideas and plan to go through with those ideas. I feel that our biggest accomplishment was the atlas that we all created because it was those creative ideas that we as a group have and I think that our final product came out okay and we have gotten a lot of compliments on the idea and what we turned in. I think that my group and I are all ready to do things that are different from everybody else and make it something better than what we previously did. I think that I have also tried to make a bigger effort to go around the room and look at other groups’ progress to get ideas that my group could use like seeing what types of maps people have been using and how they were going to present them.

The way our group works right now, is that we all get the ideas that need to happen and how to accomplish them in the beginning but we start to disperse as the project commences. I feel that my group and I have to really get the issues out on the table and then make a plan to get the next project done that is solid and keeps us together. I think that we are all just afraid of the other group members’ reactions so we don’t want to have to talk but right now if we want to get a good grade on the project then we will need to sit down and have that talk.

I feel that I have exceeded the expectations for the class for the last few weeks in humanities. Not only am I coming in to class everyday on time but I have been doing my work and trying my best to get my group on track. You see I have been pulling my weight around the group but I have also been able to consistently help out my group members as well. Another thing that I have done is make all of the necessary moves for my groups projects to be done, whether that be going down to ms Gonzales to get a color print, going to the library to get background information, or even print more stuff out at Kinko’s so that my group can stay prepared and on top of things.  In the last SAR I said that there really wasn’t a leader, and that we made decisions as a democracy so to speak but in the last two weeks our group has not only been a collective of all of our ideas but I feel that I have established a leadership role in my group to where most decisions are finalized by me. I do think that I am equipped for the task but we need to get the whole group in order first before we can all move forward.

I feel that for my progress of the last two weeks that I have met the expectations of the class. The goals that I had set for myself were as follows: to have more discussions with my group about the assignments and the information and knowledge that we are constantly getting, to have a blog for the class room started, and to make solid plans with my group about our projects. The first goal that I had was crucial to making the maps work, because we needed to have all of our information from that time to be relevant and the information that the group had to discuss what would be going in the maps as well as what they would represent. One of the things that furthered my understanding of the century was how the advanced and knowledgeable the people were at the time, because along with the wealth of a country, how far they were told a lot about their dependence on slaves and foreign countries.

The second goal was to start a blog for the class so that I can really measure my progress and make improvements to myself and my work ethic. The blog is new so there is not much on it but I am going to change that and I hope to get the use out of it that I had intended for it. My last goal was really my hit and miss goal for the last two weeks because what I wanted to have happen was for the group to have a solid plan to go and work on so that we all knew what we had to work on. This went okay at first but then we all started to stray and then we had a struggle at the end to have everything done and like I have said a million times in this SAR I am going to make it a goal to talk with my group and get rolling and organized  for the next project. The other goal that I have is to continue to have discussions and measure my progress so that I myself can be on track with everything that is going to happen.

Lastly, I feel that I have met the expectations for performance for the past few weeks. With everything that was due like the timeline and the atlas, I feel that I did a pretty good job at getting my information on everything that I said I would put forward like the events for our timeline as well as the maps that I said I would do as well as trying to get the other maps presentable. Another thing that I have done was start the literary analysis about the book I read (the tale of two cities) and i feel that I made a great choice when I chose my book because it helps me to get a look into the 18^th century but does it from a 19^th century perspective (i.e. Charles Dickens).
